  • Anambra Police Commissioner rewards Inspector Charity Oyor with N250,000 for refusing bribe from suspect carrying stolen cable.
  • Inspector Oyor’s integrity praised by Commissioner; case transferred to CID, DPO thanks commissioner for leading by example.

Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, has rewarded Inspector Charity Oyor with N250,000 for refusing a bribe from a suspect.

Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra Police Command, stated on Friday that Inspector Charity works at the Main Market Division in Onitsha.

According to him, the female officer turned down a bribe from a suspect who was carrying six heavy bundles of stripped armoured cable that was suspected of being stolen.

She stopped the driver and inquired about the consignment from the purported owner who, rather than explain how he came to be in possession of the cable, offered her a bribe which she rejected.

The Police Inspector put a call across to her DPO, Superintendent Joy Chidinma Ikpeama who led Police personnel to the scene and arrested the suspect. The cable was impounded and taken to the station for investigation.

At the station, the suspect again offered a sum of N500,000 to be allowed to go. This was rejected by the officers. The DPO promptly briefed the commissioner of Police on the arrest and recovery, the statement read.

The case was then transferred to the State CID in Awka, with the commissioner commending Inspector Charity for her integrity at the presentation of the cash reward on Friday.

He urged all command personnel to always uphold the profession’s ethics by refusing to be compromised in the performance of their duties.

The officer, for her part, promised to rededicate herself to the job she adores and thanked the commissioner for his generosity.

This comes as DPO Ikpeama thanked the commissioner for leading by example, saying that his leadership had inspired her personnel.
