Businessman docked for allegedly stealing 1,500 blocks

Mr. Mamman pleaded not guilty to the charges and is accused of using the stolen blocks to construct a fence without the owner's permission

  • Hassan Mamman, a 38-year-old businessman, was brought before the Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court on charges of stealing 1,500 building blocks
  • The theft was reported by Chukwu Johnson at the Lugbe Police Station on August 26
  •  During the police investigation, Mr. Mamman was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his actions
  •  The judge granted Mr. Mamman bail in the sum of N2 million with a surety, and the case is adjourned until September 7

On Thursday, the Police brought a 38-year-old businessman named Hassan Mamman before the Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court. Mr. Mamman was accused of stealing 1,500 pieces of building blocks, which resulted in him facing theft charges.

The prosecutor, Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the incident was reported by Chukwu Johnson of Apo, Abuja, and was lodged at the Lugbe Police Station on August 26.

Mr Nwaforaku said that the defendant dishonestly stole the complainant’s 1,500 piece of nine-inch building blocks worth N570,000.

He said the defendant used the said blocks to build a fence at plot 2342 Lugbe 1 Extension without the consent of the owner.

The prosecutor said that during the police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.

He said that the offences contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N 2 million with a surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce a means of identification.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 7, for hearing.
