Insecurity: NSA Lobbies UN Over Containment Of Terrorism In Nigeria

• Ribadu, National Security Adviser, collaborates with UN to tackle security challenges, signs MoUs for enhanced counter-terrorism efforts
• Documents cover cooperation in countering terrorism, travel, financing, border security, and training, involving key Nigerian agencies

Mal. Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, has lobbied the United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism (UNOCT) to address the country’s current security challenges.

As a result, Ribadu signed two Memoranda of Understanding with the United Nations to advance Nigeria’s collaborative efforts with the international community in combating the global threat of terrorism.

Rear Admiral YEM Musa (rtd), National Coordinator, National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), represented the NSA at the signing.

Before signing the formal documents, he stated that terrorism is still one of the most complex threats to nations’ peace, security, and stability worldwide.

According to Zakari Mijinyawa, the Office of the National Security Adviser’s Head of Strategic Communications, Ribadu noted that the two documents marked a watershed moment in cementing Nigeria’s partnership with UNOCT toward enhanced collective counter-terrorism efforts.

According to Vladimir Voronkov, UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, the documents envisage further cooperation in a variety of areas, including countering terrorist travel, financing terrorism, border and maritime security, and delivery of counter-terrorism training in Nigeria.

Mijinyawa stated that the heads of key implementing Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were also at the signing ceremony and urged to participate.

Police Smash Kidnapping Syndicate, Arrest Suspects In Yobe

Yobe State Police Command says its operatives have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.

The command disclosed this through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement made available on Wednesday in Damaturu.

According to the statement, the suspected kidnappers, Adamu Manu, aged 25 and Musa Alh. Tahiru, aged 28, has been terrorising the inhabitants of Banbangida and some parts of Dapchi, in Bursari Local Government Area.

He said the suspects were apprehended after receiving several kidnapping reports in the areas, and the operatives successfully launched a manhunt on the syndicate.
