  • The Court of Appeal Registrar, Umar Bangari, confirmed the verdict date and announced that the proceedings will be live broadcasted by interested television stations.
  • The five-man tribunal led by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani, reserved judgment after adopting final written addresses of parties involved in a suit and announced a verdict delivery date

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Atiku Abubakar campaign has responded to the date set by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) for the delivery of its final decision in the lawsuits contesting President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

Recall that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal said on Monday that the decision on the petitions contesting President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election would be delivered on September 6.

The much-awaited verdict’s date was confirmed by the Court of Appeal Registrar, Umar Bangari, in a statement on Monday. He also revealed that interested television stations will be able to stream live coverage of the court proceedings.

However, Paul Ibe, the PDP candidate’s media aide, stated in a conversation with Daily Trust that the presidential tribunal’s ruling should be based on the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022.

The former vice president’s spokesman insisted that all he expects is a decision in his and his party’s favour.

He said: “We expect that the PEPT will render justice in line with the 1999 constitution as amended and all the other bodies of law that guided the election.”

Atiku and the PDP had petitioned the tribunal seeking to nullify the election of President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2023 presidential election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It would be recalled that after adopting the final written addresses of the parties involved in the suit, the five-man tribunal headed by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani reserved judgment and said a date to deliver the verdict would be communicated to concerned parties and their lawyers.
