  • The incident unfolded when a case of attempted murder was reported in Sango-Ota
  • Abiodun Fatai reported that his younger brother, Ramon Rasaq, became embroiled in a confrontation with the security personnel stationed on their street

The Ogun State police command has announced the arrest of two security personnel for allegedly shooting a man in the eye due to a disagreement in the Sango-Ota region of the state.

The state’s police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to reporters in Sango-Ota, stating that the arrests were made on September 2.

According to her, the unfortunate event occurred following a report of attempted murder in Sango-Ota. Abiodun Fatai reported that his younger brother, Ramon Rasaq, had a confrontation with security personnel on their street.

Mr. Fatai explained that the dispute arose when Mr. Rasaq opened the gate himself since the two security personnel, Michael Adelayo and Ganiyu Saka, were not present at their security post when his brother, Rasaq, arrived at the gate and attempted to enter the street.

This dispute escalated into a quarrel, and during the ensuing altercation, one of the security personnel, Mr. Saka, reportedly shot Mr. Rasaq in the eye.

“Following the incident, the victim was rushed to a traditional healer who successfully removed seven pellets from his right eye.

“The CSP Saleh Dahiru, the Divisional Police Officer(DPO), Sango Ota, provided the necessary medical forms for Rasaq to be transferred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

“At the hospital, he received immediate medical attention to stabilise his condition, but unfortunately he lost his right eye. The doctor on duty assured that Rasaq was currently responding positively to treatment,” said Ms Odutola.

The PPRO said the commissioner of police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, had directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution.
