Tope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has stated that Nigeria’s power sector challenges will be resolved within the next three years.
On Wednesday, Ajayi made this assurance as a guest on Daily Trust’s Twitter Space titled “Analyzing President Tinubu’s First 100 Days.”
Tinubu faced challenges from his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, according to the presidential spokesperson.
He, however, stated that Tinubu cannot solve all of the problems he inherited in 100 days and that he should be given more time because he is working tirelessly to get Nigeria back on track.
“No one expects the president to turn water into wine in 100 days.” The first 100 days are intended to “set the tone, template, and direction for the government,” according to Ajayi.
Speaking about the country’s perennial headache, electricity, Tinubu’s media aide stated that Nigeria has no problem with storage but only with distribution.
“A major power problem would have been solved in another two or three years.” Our power sector would have fared far better in the next four years than it does now.”
He also stated that in his first 100 days in office, he has done admirably well in managing the country’s diversity.
Ajayi stated that his diversity management has helped to reduce agitation in some parts of the country.
“The President has done well in diversity management, and it has, to some extent, reduced agitation from a part of the country,” Ajayi said.
He stated that Tinubu inherited a slew of challenges from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration but that he is working to address them.
Ajayi stated that one of the President’s good scores was the appointment of service chiefs from all ethnic groups.
The immediate employment had lopsided appointments and a certain section of the country was not happy with it.
In choosing services chiefs, he (Tinubu) makes sure it (appointment) reflects the diversity of the country. The agitation has come down. You cannot have development in an atmosphere of distraught, he said.
Speaking about the challenges, Ajayi added;
The man (Tinubu) can into the office to meet the problems of insecurity, inflation, and unemployment and these are issues he has been working to address. And one of the ways to address them is to free up capital.
