  • UN Peace Ambassador Dr. Sherif Lawal calls on public officials and politicians to financially support the Nigeria Police Force for enhanced security and crime reduction
  • Lawal emphasizes the need for collaboration to equip and empower the police and criticizes politicians for exacerbating corruption and crime

In order to reduce security challenges and promote peace in the country, UN Peace Ambassador Dr. Sherif Lawal has urged public officials and politicians to contribute to the funding of the Nigeria Police Force in order to protect people and property.

Dr Lawal stated that the force’s personnel require assistance and support from “all of us,” adding that this would allow for unprecedented improvement and success in the fight against crime.

Speaking at the International Association of World Peace Advocates on Thursday in Abuja, he stated that the police must be financially and physically supported in order to combat crime.

He chastised politicians for the country’s corruption, claiming that “their tendency to get rich quickly increases crime.”

Lawal stated that the United Nations has been supporting police systems all over the world, recognizing their efforts to promote global peace.

The police are humans like everyone else, they have limitations on what they can do which solemnly depends on facilities and equipment at their disposal, he said.

Lawal said the collaboration would not only help in improving security in the country but would provide an opportunity to arrest and fish out criminals wherever they may decide to hide and hope to “banish their ill-gotten and dirty wealth.”

Police are better and can do well, we call on the paramilitary agencies to support them. We are going to sacrifice for the sake of humanity. Our organization has done enough to promote the United Nations, we promote UN ideals and UN’s peace, that is why we organize a lot of symposia and conferences.

Putting heads together with our reliable personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, this catastrophic menace would surely be eradicated or reduced to a minimal level.

The mother of it all, our politicians or public office holders should empower the police to carry out its functions effectively, he added.

Amb Sherif Lawal was recognized for his contributions to the organization and for his efforts to promote peace in Katsina State.

In his remarks, Amb Pep Stafsen stated that policing is essential for the peace and safety of humanity.

Our association will stand to promote the police welfare. We decided to honour some heroes as peace ambassadors, he said.
