Armed non-state actor wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s middle belt have struck again in Plateau state.

In the latest sheer unleashing of terror, the gunmen killed at least 10 persons and injured one in the beleaguered Mangu Local Government Area of the State.

The incident happened in in Kulben community on Sunday night, according to a local, Jerry Datim.

Datim disclosed that a distress call was sent to security operatives but they turned up late as the diabolical deeds had been done and the assailants had left the area.

‘’Last night, at about 8:40 p.m., some gunmen attacked Kulben community, killed 10 persons and injured one” Datim told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos, the state capital on Monday.

‘’The criminals invaded the village and started shooting sporadically. People started running to safety but the bullets killed some whose bodies were later found.

‘’We alerted the security personnel, but before they got there, the attackers had moved from the community,’’ he said.

However, a senior officer, who preferred anonymity, told NAN that the Plateau State Police Command is on the trail of the gunmen.

He assured that the hoodlums will be made to face the wrath of the law.

Mangu has been at the receiving end of violent attacks and wanton killings in recent months.

In June, over 200 people were killed in the area, according to Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

In May, Solomon Maren, a member of the house of representatives from Plateau, said over 100 people were killed in two days during overnight attacks in his constituency — Mangu/Bokkos.

More than 30 persons were reportedly killed in an attack by gunmen in Bwoi, Mangu.

The Plateau governor said 80 percent of the incidents are “pure genocide”, adding that over 30,000 people have been displaced.

He said reports from the communities indicate that the perpetrators of the violent attacks are “foreign mercenaries”.

“Last night, four people were killed in Mangu. Conservatively, I will put it that in the last three weeks, we have buried not less than 150 people in Mangu local government,” he said.

“And as I am talking to you we have no less than 30,000 people scattered in various IDP camps that we are having to deal with now.”
