  • Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced the government’s commitment to allow universities to seek alternative funding for tertiary education
  • The Nigerian Annual Education Conference focuses on aligning education with Sustainable Development Goals and African Union’s Agenda 2060

Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, stated that the government is determined to initiate a new creative method of funding tertiary education by granting universities the autonomy to explore new sources of funding for their activities.

He made the remarks yesterday in Abuja at the Nigerian Annual Education Conference (NAEC), which had the theme “Implementation of Education 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”

He stated that the conference would discuss emerging trends such as university autonomy, the Students Loans Fund, and education financing, all of which he believes are perfectly aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for the sector.

He stated that the conference’s theme would remain relevant until the country achieved 100 percent of the targets set in the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, as well as indicators and targets related to education in the African Union’s Agenda 2060.

As a signatory to the SDG 2030 and AU Agenda 2060, Nigeria must continue to demonstrate its commitment to achieving these goals through leadership and ownership of the implementation process. The education sector is one of the line sectors that ensure that planning and budgeting in the country are within the framework of the SDGS, he said.

The minister said;

In proposing and developing implementation strategies, also provide for mechanisms for constant monitoring and evaluation, to ensure goals are achieved.
