  • Senator Orji Kalu’s victory in the February 25 polls representing Abia-North Senatorial district has been upheld by the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia.
  • The tribunal dismissed the petitions of Mao Ohuabunwa from the People’s Democratic Party and Nnamdi Iro-Orji from the Labour Party, stating they lacked merit.
  • The tribunal ruled that Kalu’s election complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
  • The argument that the election did not take place in over 120 polling units was rejected by the tribunal.
  • The tribunal also rejected the argument that the total number of registered voters in the affected polling units exceeded the margin of win between Kalu and the first and second runners-up

Kalu retains Senate seat, defeats PDP, Labour Party at tribunalSenator Orji Kalu’s victory in the February 25 polls, representing Abia-North Senatorial district, has been upheld by the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia.

The tribunal, led by Justice Samson Paul-Gang, dismissed the petitions of Mao Ohuabunwa from the People’s Democratic Party and Nnamdi Iro-Orji from the Labour Party.

The tribunal stated that Kalu’s election complied with the Electoral Act and rejected the argument that the election did not take place in over 120 polling units. Ohuabunwa and Iro-Orji had requested the court to overturn Kalu’s election, citing irregularities.

The tribunal also rejected the argument that the total number of registered voters in the affected polling units exceeded the margin of win between Kalu and the first and second runners-up.
