  • The Kano governorship election tribunal declared Nasiru Gawuna of the APC as the state’s duly elected governor
  • Some APC supporters on social media celebrated the tribunal’s decision and expressed their support for Gawuna

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reacted to the Kano governorship election tribunal’s decision to dismiss Governor Abba Kabir.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the tribunal has declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the state’s duly elected governor.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Yusuf, who ran on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), the election winner.

While his APC opponent, Nasir Gawuna, congratulated him, the party went to court.

On Wednesday, the three-member panel ordered that the certificate of return presented by INEC to Governor Yusuf be withdrawn and that a certificate of return be issued to Gawuna.

The court deducted 165,663 votes from Gov. Yusuf’s total as invalid votes, citing the fact that the ballot papers (165,663) were not stamped or signed and thus declared invalid.

The petition’s three grounds were all resolved in favour of APC.

The grounds are Gov Yusuf’s membership in the NNPP, noncompliance with the Electoral Act, and total lawful votes (invalid ballot papers were used in the election).

NNPP has appealed against the ruling, pledging to fight it in court.

Meanwhile, some APC supporters in the state have reacted to the verdict on their various X accounts, formerly Twitter.
