  • DSS detains Prof Cyril Ndifon, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, over alleged sexual harassment
  • The arrest follows his refusal to honour multiple invitations and a court order allowing his detention after ICPC’s request

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested and detained Prof Cyril Ndifon, the former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, for alleged sexual harassment of female law students.

According to reports, there were a series of protests in the institution against the university don, which the university’s administration later suspended while an investigation into the allegations began immediately.

Ndifon had defended himself, claiming that the law students’ protests were orchestrated by faculty members who had sworn to bring him down. He called the allegations “blatant lies” intended to tarnish his reputation.

Giving an update on the situation in Abuja on Thursday, DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya confirmed that the don was arrested and taken into custody after he refused to honour several invitations extended to him.

Afunanya told journalists that the action was taken after the ICPC requested the secret police’s assistance and in the spirit of inter-agency collaboration. Ndifon’s arrest was carried out following a court order granting permission.

Azuka Ogugua, the ICPC’s spokesperson, could not be reached for comment when filing this report because calls to her phone did not connect.

Suspended UNICAL Don Not Kidnapped – Police

Police in Cross River debunked the alleged kidnapping of Prof. Cyril Ndifon, suspended Professor of Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar.

SP Irene Ugbo, a police spokesperson in Calabar, stated that Ndifon was not kidnapped but was picked up by government security agents.

She observed that the rumoured abduction was intended to cause panic.

Police hereby state that Prof. Ndifon was not kidnapped, as previously reported, but was arrested by a government security agency for questioning.”

Police also advise members of the public to disregard information about the alleged abduction on social media platforms because it is subversive.”

It is deceptive and a calculated attempt to cause panic or a breach of the state’s peace, Ugbo said.
