The House of Representatives in Nigeria has adjourned its plenary session to Thursday to mourn the passing of one of its members, Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga, from Sokoto State. Mr. Danbuga represented the Isa-Sabon Birnin constituency in Sokoto State. He passed away early on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, announced the lawmaker’s death in a letter signed by Ahmed Abdullahi Kalambaina. Mr. Kalu expressed his sorrow and led the lawmakers in observing a minute of silence. As per tradition, the House adjourned the plenary session to Thursday in honour of the deceased member.

Mr. Kalu extended his condolences to the family of the deceased lawmaker and prayed for his eternal rest. He also reflected that death is a reminder of the transitory nature of power, emphasizing the importance of serving with care and humility.

Another lawmaker from Sokoto, Ahmed Abdullahi, paid tribute to Mr. Danbuga, describing him as a respected elder and noting that his passing is a great loss for Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole.

House of Reps member, Jelani Danbuga is dead

Member representing Isa-Sabon Birni federal constituency of Sokoto State, Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga, is dead.

He was a first-time House member elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

He reportedly died around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a brief illness.

He reportedly took ill on Tuesday and was admitted to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the corpse of the lawmaker had been taken to Sokoto for burial, according to Islamic rites.

Spokesman of the House, Hon. Akin Rotimi, who confirmed the incident, said the death was announced on the lawmakers’ platform this morning.

He said a statement on the incident was forthcoming.

In another development, the House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the death of Dr. Michael Umoh, a personnel at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) who died on duty.

The resolution was a sequel to a unanimous adoption of a motion by Adedayo Adesola at plenary yesterday.

Moving the motion, Adesola said the importance of medical personnel as the fulcrum of the healthcare delivery system could not be overemphasized.
