Nigeria, Other Countries Evacuate Citizens as Israel-Hamas War Rages

These evacuations aim to ensure the safety of citizens amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas

  • Nigeria: Evacuated over 300 citizens from Israel, returning through Jordan
  • Ukraine: Planned evacuation flights from Tel Aviv and Gaza Strip, coordinating through Egypt and third countries

In response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, several countries have initiated or planned evacuations of their citizens from the region. Here is an overview of these evacuations:

Nigeria: The Nigerian Christian Pilgrims’ Commission organized the evacuation of more than 300 Nigerian citizens who were in Israel for a Christian pilgrimage. They travelled to Jordan by road and then took a chartered flight back to Lagos.

Ukraine: Ukraine has planned its first evacuation flight from Tel Aviv on Saturday and potentially a second on Sunday. The authorities are also working to evacuate approximately 160 Ukrainians from the Gaza Strip through Egypt to third countries.

Canada: Canada has dispatched two army aircraft to handle the increased demand for evacuations of Canadians from Israel in the coming days.

Greece: Greece has already repatriated around 90 Greek citizens from Israel, with more scheduled to return.

Argentina: Argentina has started evacuating over 1,200 of its citizens from Israel. They will be flown to Rome and then on to Buenos Aires.

Brazil: Brazil plans to mobilize at least six planes to repatriate its citizens from Israel and the Palestinian territories. The first flight carrying 211 Brazilians has already returned.

Switzerland: Swiss International Air Lines has repatriated 220 Swiss nationals, with additional flights planned.

Spain: Spain has organized flights from Tel Aviv to repatriate Spanish nationals and others from Europe and Latin America.

South Korea: A flight carrying 192 South Korean citizens has returned, and more South Korean nationals will be evacuated later in the week.

France: France has announced a special Air France flight on Thursday to help repatriate French nationals.

Germany: Germany is working with Lufthansa to organize special flights on Thursday and Friday for German citizens.

Iceland: Iceland is sending a plane to repatriate around 120 of its nationals.

Norway: Norway has organized a flight on Wednesday evening for its citizens in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Portugal: Portugal has repatriated 152 of its nationals, along with 14 other Europeans, using a Portuguese military aircraft.

These evacuations aim to ensure the safety of citizens amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas.
