  • Local authorities are working to investigate and determine the exact cause of the priest’s untimely death as two versions of the incident circulate

The tragic demise of Reverend Father Faustinus Gundu, the Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jootar, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, has sparked controversy. Local reports suggest that Father Gundu lost his life under mysterious circumstances, with conflicting versions of the incident.

Reports regarding the untimely death of Reverend Father Faustinus Gundu vary, leaving authorities to verify the facts. Two versions of the incident have emerged from local sources, yet to be officially confirmed.

According to one account, the priest, affectionately known as “Albino,” was struck by lightning during a rainstorm on Thursday. However, an alternative narrative suggests that he collapsed and passed away.

Eyewitnesses offer additional details. They claim Father Gundu had hurried outside his residence to retrieve a towel during the rain. Tragically, he slipped and fell, striking his head on a hard surface. The unfortunate priest was alone during this incident and had no immediate assistance. He remained at the spot where he fell, exposed to the elements, until discovered by others when the rain subsided.

Police’s Statement

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi. However, SP Anene admitted that there remains uncertainty surrounding the exact cause of Father Gundu’s death.

“I received the report, but they alleged thunder. It is until we investigate before that would be concluded,” stated the PPRO.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Reverend Father Faustinus Gundu’s passing continue to raise questions, and an official investigation will be necessary to determine the precise cause of his untimely death.
