Kalu and Ohanaeze Disown South East Sit-At-Home Protests

Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has publicly denounced the sit-at-home orders and other actions by unknown gunmen in the Southeast region of Nigeria, stating that they are contrary to the social, economic, and cultural values of Igboland.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu expressed his disapproval of the weekly sit-at-home observance every Monday, emphasizing its severe impact on businesses and the region’s social fabric.

Kalu, during a meeting with Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and his delegation in Abuja, revealed that his office has devised a mechanism aimed at addressing insecurity in the South East and restoring normalcy.

In the same meeting, Chief Iwuanyanwu called for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader. He argued that Kanu’s release would restore peace in the South East region.

He stated, “Ohaneze has decided that we want Nnamdi Kanu released. We think that every effort should be made to release Nnamdi Kanu. If he’s released, it will make it easy for us.”

Gov Buni Approves Employment Of 158 Community Nurses

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the employment of 158 community nursing graduates of Dr Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu, as part of a strategy to boost healthcare service delivery.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director General of press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed.

According to the statement, the newly employed health workers are graduates of two sets of community nursing of the college.

“Similarly, Governor Buni has approved the payment of N10,000 monthly allowance to 393 students of Yobe State origin undergoing National Diploma and Basic Midwifery programmes at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery.
