The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and emphasized that this commitment extends beyond mere rhetoric.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas made the statement at the ongoing P20 Summit in New Delhi, India, during a session discussing “Accelerated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.”

He highlighted Nigeria’s dedication to the SDGs by mentioning the country’s independent, country-led evaluations of SDG-3 (quality health and well-being for all) and SDG-4 (inclusive education and lifelong learning for all).

The Speaker also recalled Nigeria’s comprehensive transition strategy from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the SDGs in 2015. This transition aimed to build upon the progress made between 2016 and 2020, scale up implementation from 2021 to 2025, and accelerate progress from 2026 to 2030.

In addition, Speaker Abbas mentioned establishing the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs (OSSAP-SDGs) in January 2016. He credited this office with contributing to institutionalising the SDGs in Nigeria by implementing strategic initiatives and programs.

Gov Buni Approves Employment Of 158 Community Nurses

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the employment of 158 community nursing graduates of Dr Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu as part of a strategy to boost healthcare service delivery.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director General of press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed.

According to the statement, the newly employed health workers are graduates of two sets of community nursing at the college.

“Similarly, Governor Buni has approved the payment of N10,000 monthly allowance to 393 students of Yobe State origin undergoing National Diploma and Basic Midwifery programmes at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery.
