The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken a decisive step to enhance national security by sealing three Private Guard Companies (PGCs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for their failure to register and renew their licenses.

Ochacho Security, Justigo Security and Allied Services, and Maco Security Services found themselves in the crosshairs of the NSCDC for non-renewal of licenses and non-registration, both stipulated by law. The NSCDC also apprehended some of the guards employed by these sealed PGCs.

Supervising the monitoring exercise in the FCT, Olusola Odumosu, the Commandant of NSCDC, emphasized the importance of ensuring unregistered PGCs and those with expired licenses do not operate. He stated that such entities pose a genuine threat to national security.

“We are sealing these three Private Guard Companies for threatening internal and national security, failure to renew licenses when due, refusal to be subjected to licensing authority, employing guards without approval, and failure to register as a private guard company,” explained Odumosu.

He further stressed that the NSCDC’s monitoring and enforcement efforts with respect to PGCs in the FCT would continue. “We are sanitizing the private guard industry,” he declared. “It is about internal security. The country is facing many security challenges, so the Corps must be on its toes. If we compromise internal security, one is indirectly compromising national security.”

However, Odumosu assured that the business premises would be unsealed once the owners fulfill all the necessary requirements, thereby aligning with the law and ensuring that they can contribute to national security in a regulated and responsible manner.

The NSCDC’s actions underscore its commitment to upholding national security and the regulation of the private guard industry, essential in addressing the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria.
