  • Senate President Akpabio attributes divine intervention to avoiding potential embarrassment by the EFCC regarding a frivolous petition before the 2023 elections
  • Akpabio highlights concerns about EFCC’s approach to arrests, emphasizing the need for proper investigations and maintains his innocence

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has shared how he believes divine intervention spared him from potential embarrassment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ahead of the 2023 elections. Akpabio explained that the EFCC summoned him regarding a petition but released a letter indicating his inability to attend, which he considered a frivolous petition. He asserted that the EFCC seemed more focused on sensationalism than conducting substantial investigations.

Akpabio said the released letter aimed to embarrass him before the 2023 elections. He expressed his gratitude to God for helping him overcome this situation. Akpabio raised concerns about how the EFCC conducts arrests, citing the case of Rochas Okorocha, where the agency reportedly gained access to a building by breaking through the rooftop. He emphasized the need for proper investigations before arrests.

Akpabio reportedly faces a case involving the alleged misappropriation of N108.1 billion, based on a petition filed by an Abuja-based lawyer and activist, Leo Ekpenyong. While the EFCC detained Akpabio over alleged fraud, he has consistently maintained his innocence.

I Warned Against Today’s Hardship But Was Ignored – Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has expressed his frustration over the current economic hardship in Nigeria, stating that he had previously warned the Federal Government about the impending crisis but his concerns were ignored. In a conversation with journalists in Benin, the state capital, Obaseki attributed the country’s socio-economic challenges to poor leadership decisions made by the nation’s leaders.

Drawing on his background as an investment banker, Obaseki claimed that he had foreseen the economic difficulties that the country is currently grappling with due to unfavourable economic choices. He stated that he had consistently raised concerns about the need for corrective measures, but his warnings went unheeded.

The governor empathized with the Nigerian populace, acknowledging that the nation was going through a period of severe economic hardship. He encouraged citizens to remain resilient and not lose hope in these challenges.
