UNILORIN Produced 36 Patents – VC, Egbewole Revealed At Combined Convocation Ceremony

  • According to Egbewole, the University of Ilorin is one of the highest contributing institutions to patenting in Nigeria
  • Professor Egbewole noted that the graduates of the institution are trained with a strong foundation for making meaningful contributions to nation-building.

A total of 36 patents aimed at influencing society and advancing the country have been produced by the University of Ilorin, according to Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), vice chancellor.

During the university’s 37th and 38th combined convocation ceremonies on Saturday in Ilorin, the venture capitalist stated that the patents were created in partnership with the federal government via the National Office of Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NATOP) in Abuja with the aim of promoting innovation and research.

“With this, the University of Ilorin is one of the highest contributing institutions to patenting in Nigeria,” he said.

Professor Egbewole mentioned that the patents were produced in various disciplines, including medicine, agriculture, engineering, and information technology, among others.

“The number of patents in the various disciplines is as follows: Medical 5, Agriculture 5, Engineering 16, Food 1, Information Technology 4, Petrochemical 3, Defence 1, Energy 1.

“These various patents are currently being positioned for commercialization, as our research aims to impact society and develop our community,” he said.

He explained that the university is committed to fostering a culture of excellence, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.

Professor Egbewole noted that the graduates of the institution are trained with a strong foundation for making meaningful contributions to nation-building.

He advised the graduates to maintain good behaviour and continue seeking knowledge at all times.

A total of 10,757 graduates were awarded first degrees, diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, and PhDs during the university’s 2021–2022 convocation ceremony.
