  • NADECO extends congratulations to President Tinubu on his Supreme Court victory, encouraging a focus on APC manifesto and governance reform
  • Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim also congratulates President Tinubu, emphasizing the need for a government of national unity and competent leadership

In a show of support and congratulations, the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) has extended its best wishes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his Supreme Court victory on October 26, 2023. This victory came in response to election petitions filed by political opponents contesting his declaration as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the February 2023 Presidential Election.

Similarly, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former presidential candidate, congratulated President Tinubu on the Supreme Court’s favorable verdict. Olawepo-Hashim emphasized the importance of President Tinubu’s responsibility in addressing the pressing issues that confront Nigerians daily with utmost seriousness.

In a statement issued by Chief Ayo Opadokun, the leader of the NADECO coalition, President Tinubu was encouraged to focus on the implementation of the APC manifesto and the governance reform panel led by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Opadokun reiterated that while NADECO preferred the Nigerian state first to establish a return to federal constitutional governance, they acknowledged that partisan politicians had gone through the electoral process, exhausted legal remedies, and it was time to move forward.

Olawepo-Hashim echoed the need for a national unity government, akin to General Gowon’s post-civil war cabinet, given the fractured state of the polity and economic challenges. He stressed that the country eagerly awaits to witness the competence of the government as the welfare of the people takes center stage.

He further emphasized that, during severe national crises, important national responsibilities should not be assigned to individuals based solely on loyalty but should be awarded to those best equipped to handle them. Olawepo-Hashim also advised that the opposition party, which experienced internal divisions in the 2023 election, must address these issues to remain relevant in Nigeria’s immediate political future.

Olawepo-Hashim emphasized the need for all political leaders to exhibit seriousness and responsibility as the nation faces daily challenges that demand comprehensive solutions and not pettiness or substandard efforts.
