  • Former Nasarawa governors, Senators Adamu and Al-Makura, declare support for Governor Sule in his legal battle to contest election nullification
  • They emphasize unity and downplay rumors of conflicts, urging their supporters to back the current administration

Former governors of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, have put to rest their alleged feud with the current governor of the state, Abdullahi Sule. They announced that they would support Sule in his legal battle at the Court of Appeal.

The election petition tribunal previously nullified Governor Sule’s election and declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), David Ombugadu, as the winner of the March 18 election. Sule subsequently filed an appeal seeking to overturn the tribunal’s decision and have his victory recognized.

Amid rumors of conflicts among these prominent politicians, they jointly addressed the press in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Senator Adamu denied any discord among them, emphasizing that unity is in the best interest of the state and the country.

Senator Al-Makura added that as former governors, they have a responsibility to support a fellow governor’s administration. He highlighted the importance of their meeting at a time when they face various challenges, and he assured that they are united and focused on supporting the current administration.

Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule Files Notice of Appeal

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has filed a notice of appeal with the Makurdi Division of the Court of Appeal challenging the nullification of his reelection by the governorship election petition tribunal.

In a recent split judgment, the governorship election petition tribunal in Lafia had declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, David Ombugadu, as the lawful winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.

Governor Sule rejected the majority judgment, describing it as unmeritorious and lacking evidential support. He has listed 27 grounds of appeal for determination by the appellate court, questioning the tribunal’s jurisdictional competence and the interpretation of relevant sections of the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

Sule has urged the Appellate Court to set aside the lower court’s decision and affirm his election victory as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The notice of appeal also names Ombugadu, the PDP, INEC, and the APC as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respondents, respectively.
