  • The Senate President, after reading the letter, referred the presidential request to the Committee of the Whole for screening.
  • The 10 RECs are to serve a five-year term each, and can only be removed by the president and a two-thirds vote from the National Assembly.

The vetting of ten nominees for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun in the Senate.

President Bola Tinubu forwarded the names of the nominees for confirmation as RECs on Tuesday, October 31.

The nominees being screened by the Committee of the Whole of the Senate are: Etekamba Umoren (Akwa Ibom), Isah Shaka Ehimeakne (Edo), Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti), Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji (Gombe), Shehu Wahab (Kwara) and Prof. Mohammed Yelwa (Niger).

Others are Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers), Isma’ila Kaura Moyi (Zamfara), Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos) and Aminu Kasimu Idris (Nasarawa).
