Federal Government Encourages Companies to Include Police in Humanitarian Services

The federal government calls upon corporate organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to extend their humanitarian efforts to support the Nigeria Police Force, which is responsible for maintaining security and protecting lives and property in the country.

Specifically, the government is requesting these organizations to incorporate the Nigeria Police Force into their programs and social activities by providing assistance to police widows and families. This assistance could include support for the education of their children, housing, and aiding their wives in small-scale trading ventures.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, appealed this while hosting a delegation from the Alhabibiyah Islamic Society led by Mallam Ibrahim Idris.

Sani-Gwarzo emphasized that providing these services to police officers would not only support the police ecosystem but also contribute to the current administration’s reform agenda. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Nigeria Police Force to protect the nation but noted that they are often not adequately recognized in society. He also mentioned the challenges faced by the families of officers who passed away in active service, particularly delays in receiving their entitled stipends, which can cause economic difficulties.

Sani-Gwarzo informed the delegation that the government is working to ensure that the entitlements of deceased officers are promptly paid.

Mallam Ibrahim Idris, the leader of the delegation, highlighted their organization’s track record of aiding vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, regardless of their religion. He stressed the importance of the police in providing a secure environment for everyone in the country. He informed the ministry about their upcoming Fundraising dinner for IDPs, refugees, and vulnerable individuals, seeking the ministry’s assistance for the event.
