In a significant development in their mission to maintain peace in Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna states, troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) recently revealed the discovery of an illegal gun factory in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. This operation also led to the arrest of two suspects associated with the illicit manufacturing facility.
The illegal gun factory involved in the production of dangerous weapons was uncovered through meticulous intelligence work. The finding is a substantial stride in the ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal arms and enhance the security of Plateau State and its surrounding regions.
Captain Oya James, the spokesperson for the troops, made the announcement while presenting the suspects at their headquarters in Jos. He stated, “The discovery of the factory was the result of a carefully executed intelligence-led operation by the troops, resulting in the recovery of a cache of automatic weapons and related equipment. These arms were being manufactured and distributed to other states, contributing to unrest in Plateau and Southern Kaduna.”
The recovered items included 6 AK-47 rifles, 4 sub-machine guns, 11 AK rifle bodies, a pistol, and 7 AK-47 bridge blocks, among others. In addition to weapons, the troops seized equipment used in their fabrication, such as a drilling machine set and a hand-filing machine.
Two individuals directly implicated in the illegal weapons production and marketing process, identified as Michael Dung (33 years old) and Yusuf Pam (43 years old), were both apprehended.
Captain James emphasized that OPSH would maintain its collaborative efforts with other security agencies to ensure that individuals responsible for perpetuating criminal activities, as well as their collaborators, faced the full extent of the law. This operation signifies a critical step towards curbing illicit arms manufacturing and strengthening the security in the region.
