  • Minister Nyesom Wike urges the House Committee on FCT to support key bills for development, emphasizing collaboration for reforms
  • Bills include Abuja Geographic Information System, FCT College of Nursing, and others; Wike stresses the revenue potential of the FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on the House of Representatives Committee on FCT to support and expedite the passage of crucial bills essential for the development of the territory. Wike made this appeal during the inaugural meeting of the 10th National Assembly’s House Committee on FCT in Abuja.

The bills requiring urgent approval include the Abuja Geographic Information System Bill, FCT College of Nursing and Midwifery Establishment Bill, FCTA Metropolitan Council Establishment Bill 2019, and the FCT College of Agriculture and other related Bill. Additionally, bills related to the FCT HIV/AIDS Control Agency, FCT Orphanage (Registration & Regulatory) Agency Bill 2020, FCT Social Health Insurance Scheme Bill, and the FCT Educational Resource Centre (Establishment) Bill 2019 are on the priority list.

Wike emphasized the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government to achieve the reform measures aimed at enhancing the quality of life for FCT residents. He highlighted the revenue potential of the territory, especially with experienced revenue generation experts like himself and the Committee chairman, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Betara.

Committee chairman Aliyu Betara expressed optimism that, with Wike’s revenue drive, the FCT could surpass its revenue target in 2023. He assured a cooperative relationship with the FCT leadership for the territory’s greater advancement. The Committee members raised various concerns, including the decongestion of the City Centre and the restoration of the city’s Master plan.
