  • Recall that the NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, had declared a nationwide strike, demanding the arrest of the suspected thugs and their sponsors.
  • This comes days after the NLC president was attacked in Owerri, Imo State capital on November 1 when workers in the state staged a protest over unpaid salary.

In order to discuss the continuing statewide strike, the Nigerian federal government is currently meeting with the executives of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

The meeting is being held at the National Security Advisor’s (NSA) office.

The Minister of State Hon. Nkeiruka Onyeajeocha, the NSA Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Labour Simon Bako Lalong are present.

Labour leaders, including NLC Secretary General Emmanuel Ugboaja and TUC President Comrade Festus Osifo, are also present.

Remember that the National Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had called for a statewide walkout, demanding the apprehension of the alleged thugs and their backers.

This occurs a few days after the NLC president was attacked on November 1 in the state capital of Owerri, Imo State, during a demonstration by state employees over unpaid salaries.
