  • Fire, battled for over an hour, brought under control by combined efforts of fire service, IDPs, and security agencies

A devastating fire swept through the Muna Alamdari Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Maiduguri, resulting in the tragic death of two individuals and the destruction of over 1,000 houses.

The fire erupted at approximately 6 am, raging for over an hour before the concerted efforts of fire service personnel, IDPs, Civilian Joint Task Force, and security agencies brought it under control.

Dr. Barkindo Muhammad, the Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency, disclosed on Wednesday in Maiduguri that immediate action was taken to assess the damages and provide urgent humanitarian aid to the victims.

“We are immediately providing 500 bags of rice, blankets, as well as other non-food items to mitigate their suffering,” stated the official.

This unfortunate incident has not only claimed lives but also left a community in distress, prompting swift responses to support those affected by the fire.

Ogun student arrested for allegedly poisoning girlfriend

The Ogun State Police command has arrested a final-year student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Oladokun Ayomide, for allegedly poisoning his girlfriend, Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu, and her friend, Odumosu Semilore.

According to the police, the suspect administered a poison believed to be an admixture of brownie cakes, alcohol, and an unknown harmful substance after inviting his girlfriend to his residence in the Surulere community in the Camp area of Abeokuta on Friday.

It was gathered that Mmasichukwu told her schoolmate, Semilore, to accompany her to her boyfriend’s place at Surulere community, Camp, Abeokuta.

After serving them the substance suspected to be poisonous, it was learnt that the victims were rushed to hospital when they lost consciousness immediately after they ate the harmful cake.
