  • PDP sweeps all 16 chairmanship seats in Taraba State local government election, declared free, fair, and peaceful by the electoral commission
  • IPAC warns GOSIEC in Gombe, threatens legal action if elections for 11 local government councils are not promptly conducted

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured triumph in all 16 chairmanship seats in the local government election held on Saturday in Taraba State. Dr. Philip Duwe, Chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission, announced the election results on Sunday, confirming PDP’s dominance across the state.

Dr. Duwe declared the election as free, fair, and peaceful in all voting units throughout the state, underscoring the credibility of the electoral process.

Meanwhile, in Gombe State, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has issued a stern warning to the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC). IPAC threatened legal action if the commission failed to conduct elections for the 11 local government councils promptly.

A letter addressed to the commission’s chairman and signed by Muhammed Sulaiman Kumo, the state chapter chairman of IPAC, and 17 others, provided a one-week ultimatum for the election to be conducted. The letter expressed dissatisfaction with GOSIEC’s refusal to release an election timetable less than 37 days before the expiration of the tenure of the present caretaker committee overseeing the 11 local government councils in the state.

Gov Mutfwang reacts to Appeal Court verdict

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has described the verdict of the Appeal Court that nullified his election as a temporary setback that will not deter him from repositioning the state on the path of Unity, Peace and Progress.

He expressed strong optimism that the mandate overwhelmingly given to him by the people of Plateau State would be restored, as he has instructed his legal team to file an appeal at the Supreme Court.

Governor Mutfwang in a statement on Sunday, by his spokesman, Gyang Bere, admonished citizens of the state and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remain calm and assured them that as long as God remains on the throne, the mandate of the people will be preserved and protected.

He reiterated his commitment to the rule of law and assured the people that there is light at the end of the tunnel, as he has unwavering faith in the judiciary and the constitution of Nigeria.
