  • North East Governors partner with Shanghai Electric to construct 60 MW coal or 50 MW solar power plants in each state
  • The collaboration aims to foster regional economic development, improve infrastructure, and address security challenges in the North East region

In a significant development, the Governors of the North East states have joined forces with Shanghai Electric to embark on the construction of either a 60 MW coal power plant or a 50 MW solar power plant in each state within the region.

This decision materialized during the 9th regional meeting of the Northeast Governors’ Forum, hosted in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State. The forum underscored the necessity of fostering regional economic development and pledged collective efforts to enhance human capacity and socio-economic progress across the region.

Despite acknowledging the security improvements in the area, the governors expressed their apprehension regarding the inadequate infrastructure, particularly the neglected federal roads within and between the states. The forum urgently called on the Federal Ministry of Works to expedite the execution of road contracts awarded in the region. The poor road network was identified as a catalyst for insecurity, hindering development and exacerbating the challenges faced by the region’s residents.

Addressing the security concerns, the forum committed to closer collaboration with security agencies to develop a unified security roadmap for the North East. Recognizing the positive strides made, the governors highlighted the imperative for enhanced cooperation among member states in shaping the security architecture of the region.
