Nigerian footballer slumps, dies during training

One Sodiq Adebisi, a footballer from Ogun State, has drawn his last breath after dying during a training session.

Adebisi reportedly collapsed and gave up the ghost during a training session at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.

The player was said to be training with other football players on Saturday when the unfortunate incident happened.

When his teammates saw the 34-year-old collapse to the ground, they rushed him to a state hospital in Ijebu-Ode.

However, the frantic efforts by the hospital’s health officials to revive him proved abortive, he was subsequently pronounced dead the same day he was taken to the hospital.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Tuesday confirmed the occurrence and revealed that the deceased’s brother, Ganiyu Adebisi, had approached the Igbeba Police Division to demand the corpse for burial.

“The brother came to report the incident at our Igbeba division. The family said they don’t want any investigation and that they wanted to bury the deceased according to Islamic rite,” Odutola stated.
