In the aftermath of the devastating military drone attack that claimed the lives of more than 80 Nigerians in Kaduna State on November 3, the House of Representatives has asserted its commitment to closely monitor the investigation.

In a statement titled, “Tudun Biri tragedy elicits profound sorrow,” Rep. Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, conveyed the House’s deep regrets over the incident and emphasized the need for prioritizing civilian safety during military operations.

Expressing sorrow, Benson urged the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to exercise extreme caution and implement preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies.

“The unfortunate incident in Tudun Biri community, Kaduna State, has cast a sombre mood over the hearts of all Nigerians; this regrettable incident profoundly saddens the House Committee on Defence,” Benson stated.

He appreciated the Nigerian Army’s prompt admission of responsibility for the accidental air strike and commended various stakeholders for their roles in assisting the victims. The incident, he noted, highlighted the importance of precision and caution in military operations, especially in areas with civilian populations.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the Armed Forces in maintaining security and addressing diverse threats, Benson praised the dedication and sacrifices exhibited by the Armed Forces and other security agencies in serving the nation.

“It remains crucial for the public to steadfastly support our troops, acknowledging the intricate nature of the security environment in which they operate. The House Committee on Defence will closely monitor the investigations and collaborate with military authorities to ensure that corrective measures are implemented to prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents,” he affirmed.
