  • The University of Jos announces plans to withdraw certificates from alumni lacking in character, underlining its commitment to high standards
  • Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tanko Ishaya warns against conduct tarnishing the university’s name, emphasizing the readiness to take drastic actions

In a bold move to uphold its esteemed global reputation, the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State, has declared its intent to withdraw certificates from alumni lacking character, even after issuance. Prof. Tanko Ishaya, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, announced this stern measure during the matriculation and oath-taking ceremony for new undergraduate students.

Emphasizing the university’s commitment to maintaining high standards, Prof. Ishaya expressed the institution’s refusal to tolerate any conduct that would tarnish its name. Outlining the severity of the decision, he asserted that the university was prepared to take drastic actions to preserve the legacy it has built over the years.

Addressing the audience, Prof. Tanko disclosed that, out of a staggering 57,333 applicants vying for admission, only 8,469, including three foreigners, were granted entry. Despite the overwhelming number of applications, he assured that the selection process remained transparent, reflecting the university’s dedication to fairness.

Encouraging the newly matriculated students, the Vice-Chancellor urged them to approach their studies seriously, cautioning against involvement in cultism, secret societies, and other social vices that could jeopardize their academic journeys. The stern warning underscored the university’s commitment to fostering a conducive academic environment and ensuring that students uphold the institution’s values.
