Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, highlighted the pivotal role of the country’s transport sector in realizing the ambitious N1 trillion economy target by 2026. Shettima conveyed this message during the ongoing National Summit on Transportation in Abuja, organized by the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA). The event focused on “Emerging National Governance Challenges and Prospects in Transport Modes.”

Represented by Aliyu Modibbo Umar, the vice president underscored the ongoing revolution in the transport sector globally, with developing countries leveraging technology for advancement. He noted that President Tinubu supports the vision of transforming the sector, recognizing its critical contribution to the N1 trillion economy target.

Shettima emphasized the significance of expert recommendations from CIoTA in developing the rail, marine, and blue economy sectors for optimal results. He acknowledged that the government is actively addressing challenges facing the sector, indicating a commitment to its enhancement.

President of CIoTA, Prince Segun Obayendo, expressed concern over the loss of over 200 lives in a boat mishap in 2023. He advocated for the full deployment of Artificial Intelligence in air, road, and waterways transportation to prevent future incidents. Recognizing the collaborative effort required for a thriving transport sector, Obayendo stressed the need for government partnership with CIoTA and other private sector entities.
