  • Former NBA president Joseph Daudu advocates for a comprehensive review of the outdated laws governing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
  • Daudu emphasizes the need to reform both substantive criminal law and procedural components to address the evolving legal landscape effectively

Joseph Daudu, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has called for the revision of the laws governing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

During the presentation of the communique at the Rule of Law Development Foundation’s 5th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference in Abuja, Daudu emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the laws in the FCT.

The conference’s theme, “Revitalisation of the Administration of Justice in Nigeria: Federal Capital Territory Criminal Justice System in Focus,” highlighted the importance of reforming the current legal framework.

Daudu pointed out that both the substantive criminal law, represented by the penal code, and its procedural component, the Criminal Procedure Code, are outdated. He stressed that the time is ripe for a thorough reform to address the evolving legal landscape.

The foundation also cautioned lawyers against filing frivolous applications in courts and making comments on pending court cases in the media.
