  • NiMet forecasts haziness and sunshine across Nigeria from Saturday to Monday, cautioning the public and advising airline operators to plan accordingly
  • The weather outlook includes moderate dust haze, sunny skies, and patches of clouds in different regions with safety precautions recommended

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast indicating haziness and sunshine from Saturday to Monday across the country.

NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Friday in Abuja, predicts moderate dust haze on Saturday with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km over the northern region during this period. The agency anticipates a sunny sky in a hazy atmosphere over North-Central cities and the inland cities of the South.

Additionally, partly cloudy skies in a hazy atmosphere are expected over the coastal belt of the country.

For Sunday, NiMet foresees moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km over the North and North-Central regions. Sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere are expected over the inland cities of the South, while patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere are anticipated over the coastal cities, with some prospects of localized thunderstorms in parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states later in the day.

On Monday, NiMet predicts a continuation of moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km over the North, North-Central, and the inland cities of the South. Few cloud patches are expected in a hazy atmosphere over the coastal cities throughout the forecast period.

NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles are in suspension and urges individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues to be cautious of the present weather conditions. Furthermore, airline operators are advised to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
