  • Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, reveals President Tinubu’s full support for the Super Eagles in the AFCON
  • Enoh expresses optimism about Nigeria’s performance in the tournament, aligning with Mikel Obi’s confidence in the team’s capabilities

Senator John Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully supporting the Super Eagles in their quest for success at the upcoming CAF African Confederation Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire next year. The minister made this revelation at the Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin, Kwara State, as he headed to Oro in the southern part of the state for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Football House and Soccer Academy.

Enoh expressed optimism, saying, “We are hoping that we are going to make the best out of the (competition), and we have the full backing of the president (on this).” The minister’s statement aligns with the confidence expressed by former international player Mikel Obi, who noted that the Super Eagles remain among the top favorites to win the AFCON trophy.

With Nigeria commencing their campaign on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea, expectations are high among soccer enthusiasts that the country is well-positioned for a fourth AFCON triumph, following previous victories in 1980, 1994, and 2013. The last AFCON title for Nigeria was secured in 2013 in South Africa under the coaching of Stephen Keshi.

The Portuguese tactician and former Real Madrid assistant manager, Jose Peseiro, is leading the Super Eagles with aspirations of becoming the first coach to guide the team to continental glory since Stephen Keshi’s triumph in 2013. All eyes will be on the team and coaching staff as they aim for success in the upcoming tournament.
