  • Arteta expresses frustration with poor finishing, emphasizes the importance of mental realignment during the team’s 13-day break

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta conceded that his team requires a psychological “reset” following their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup third round. Despite a dominant first half at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal squandered numerous chances, and a late collapse cost them the match.

Arteta expressed frustration with his team’s poor finishing and acknowledged the need for a mental realignment. Jakub Kiwior’s own goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick in the 80th minute and Luis Diaz’s stoppage-time goal sealed Liverpool’s victory.

With just one win in their last seven matches and three consecutive losses, Arsenal’s promising start to the season has taken a hit. The defeat eliminates them from both the FA Cup and League Cup, and they currently trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by five points.

Addressing the team’s struggles, Arteta admitted the possibility of a psychological issue, especially after the recent defeats. He emphasized the need for a reset to avoid falling into a mental slump.

Arsenal now have a 13-day break before their next match against Crystal Palace, providing an opportunity for the team to recharge and regroup. Arteta sees this break as beneficial, allowing them to reassess and get back on track.

“This break is good. It comes at a good time. When things are going well, they jump on the train. Now things are difficult; let’s see where they stand,” Arteta remarked, hopeful for a positive turnaround during this hiatus.
