  • In the March 2023 election, Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious. Adebutu, however, contested the results, alleging irregularities and electoral malpractices
  • Justice Joseph Shagbaor Ikyegh’s Court of Appeal decision, which was 2-1 split, dismissed Adebutu’s petition.

The Supreme Court has deferred ruling in Oladipupo Adebutu’s appeal against the Court of Appeal’s majority ruling upholding Dapo Abiodun’s election as Ogun State governor.

Following arguments and the adoption of the parties’ procedures, a five-member panel of the highest court, presided over by Justice John Okoro, adjourned for a decision.

Because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) first declared 99 polling places unfit for voting and subsequently mandated that new elections be held in those locations, Adebutu is requesting that the court invalidate the election.

The electoral body then went ahead to declare Abiodun the winner of the March 2023 election, disregarding the margin of the vote.
