6,000 Passengers Enjoy 50% Transport Subsidy in Oshodi During Festive Period

During the festive period, over 6,000 inter-state passengers benefited from the federal government’s 50% reduction in transport fares at the Oshodi Transport Interchange in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The last day of the federal government’s initiative saw a surge of passengers travelling to various states from the Oshodi Interchange. Many passengers received a 50% refund of their fare from government representatives at the interchange.

Engr. Abiodun Otunola, the Managing Director of Planet Project Limited, the company managing the Oshodi Transport Interchange, noted the significant increase in the number of travellers during the initiative. He mentioned a 35% increase in passenger numbers compared to previous Christmas periods, attributing it to the 50% reduction in transport fares.

Otunola expressed appreciation for the federal government’s initiative, stating, “From this terminal, over 6,000 passengers have benefitted from the FG’s initiative, and so far, over 700 vehicles in 15 days have conveyed passengers out of the state, which is far higher than what we could have during the festive period at this point based on our historical data.”

He acknowledged the positive impact of the subsidy, highlighting its significance in addressing the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidies. Otunola commended the government for the initiative and anticipated improved implementation in subsequent years.

One beneficiary, Uzochiamaka Maryrose, shared her experience of receiving an N15,000 refund after paying N30,000 for a bus travelling to Rivers State. The initiative received praise from passengers who took advantage of the subsidy during the festive season.
