  • Minister Keyamo warns heads of aviation agencies that their performance will be evaluated based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Heads of Nigerian aviation agencies sign a performance bond, emphasizing the zero-tolerance policy for corruption, with termination and prosecution consequences

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has issued a stern warning to new heads of aviation agencies, emphasizing that their performance will be evaluated based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Keyamo made this statement during the induction and signing of a performance bond by recently appointed chief executive officers of aviation agencies.

The agencies affected by this directive include the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT).

Following the replacement of heads of aviation agencies in December 2023 by President Tinubu, Keyamo stressed that the change aimed at aligning the agencies with the vision of the ministry and promoting efficient performance.

Keyamo stated, “Myself and the permanent secretary signed a performance bond with the president, and today you’re signing with me so you either perform or get fired because we will surely assess you based on my five-point agenda for the industry, which will form your Key Performance Indicators.”

The minister emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for corruption, warning that any CEO found wanting would face termination and prosecution. He urged the CEOs to consider their roles as a call to service rather than a pursuit of pecuniary gains.

Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najumo, assured the president and Nigerians of the commitment of the CEOs to transform the aviation sector, aligning with the ministry’s vision for efficiency and accountability.
