LASU lecturer clinches UNILAG’s best PhD graduate award

  • The thesis of Ige, a Mathematics lecturer at the Lagos State University, LASU, was announced as the best at this year’s UNILAG’s convocation ceremony

One Aminat Olawunmi Ige has emerged the best Ph.D. student at the University of Lagos, UNILAG.

The thesis of Ige, a Mathematics lecturer at the Lagos State University, LASU, was announced as the best during this year’s UNILAG’s convocation ceremony

Similarly, one David Oluwatomiwa Akanmu joined the league of students who have graduated from the university with a perfect CGPA score of 5.0. He is from the Faculty of Engineering and the fourth person to achieve that in the history of the university.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, who disclosed the remarkable achievement of the students while addressing newsmen on Thursday, said 340 of the first-degree holders were in the First Class category, with Akanmu being the best.

“Let me take you through the statistics of the graduating students. This year, we will be graduating 17,464 students. Of these,10,578 will receive first degrees and 6,886 are postgraduate. Of those with first degrees, 340 are first class with 97 coming from Management Sciences, followed by Science with 57 and Engineering 47. From the Faculties of Pharmacy, Basic
Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences, there were 39 distinctions 24 of which, were from the Faculty of Pharmacy.

“3,374 graduated with Second class upper, 4,547 graduated with Second class lower and 1,832 with 3rd class. 188 graduated with a pass and 250 had unclassified degrees from Pharmacy, Basic and Clinical Sciences.”

The overall best-graduating student, who is also the best-graduating student in Science, is David Oluwatomiwa Akanmu, from the Faculty of Engineering, with a perfect score of 5.00
