Vice-President Kashim Shettima has set off from Abuja to represent Nigeria at the 2024 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Announcing this on Sunday, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice-President’s spokesperson, highlighted that Nigeria’s second-in-command would engage with global political and business leaders, deliberating on pressing socio-economic and developmental issues.

Apart from participating in the plenary session, VP Shettima’s key focus includes launching the Private Sector Action Plan for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) during his co-chaired special session.

High-level discussions are on the agenda, featuring engagements with the Managing Director of IFC, Makhtar Diop, and the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, among others.

On the sidelines, Sen. Shettima is set to lead a roundtable dialogue on Nigeria’s economic trajectory. Additionally, he will participate in a dedicated session addressing trust-building in the global energy transition program.

This marks Shettima’s maiden foreign trip since President Bola Tinubu implemented a substantial cost-cutting measure, limiting the number of aides for foreign trips to no more than 20 individuals, with five designated for the vice president. The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria after the week-long event.
