  • Governor Oyebanji dismisses concerns about the 2026 governorship race, emphasizing his dedication to leading Ekiti to prosperity and welfare
  • The governor highlights his commitment to prioritizing people’s needs over infrastructure and calls for a sacrificial spirit in politics

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has asserted that he remains undeterred by political manoeuvring as the 2026 governorship race looms, deeming the idea of a second term the least of his current concerns.

At the culmination of the 2024 Week of Prayer, organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in collaboration with the Ekiti State Government, Governor Oyebanji addressed the congregation at Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado Ekiti.

Acknowledging rumours of nocturnal meetings among politicians in anticipation of the 2026 governorship election, the governor emphasized his commitment to maintaining focus on the interest of Ekiti citizens. He stated, “For now, 2026 is the least of my worries. What I am bothered about is leading Ekiti to prosperity and allowing God to guide us.”

Governor Oyebanji underscored his covenant against corruption, dishonesty, and disobedience to orders, expressing his attention to Ekiti’s welfare. Reflecting on his initial mandate, he revealed, “When I became the governor, which I never believed in my wildest imagination, I was asked to state what I wanted to go and do. I said God told me to go and feed my people.”

Emphasizing a commitment to the people’s welfare by prioritizing salary, pension, and gratuity payments in the first year, the governor rejected the pressure to focus on infrastructure immediately. He asserted, “I insisted that if I feed the people first, infrastructure will come.”

Governor Oyebanji appealed to politicians and political officeholders to embrace a sacrificial spirit, urging them to perceive leadership as serving God and humanity. In his view, human politics may unfold, but he believes God, as the master politician, knows how to oversee everything.
