  • Under Prof. Charles Soludo’s leadership, Anambra State adopts a zero Right of Way (RoW) policy to improve telecom services
  • The policy encourages Infracos to invest in technology infrastructure, leading to enhanced ICT services and broadband penetration in Anambra State

Under the leadership of Prof. Charles Soludo, the Anambra State government has initiated the full implementation of a zero Right of Way (RoW) policy. This strategic move aims to enhance the quality of telecommunications services in the state and foster development in critical sectors of the economy.

Engr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the Anambra State ICT Agency, announced this development during a virtual media parley. Agbata emphasized that the state government’s decision to adopt the zero RoW policy is driven by its commitment to deepening infrastructure enhancement.

This bold step has motivated infrastructure companies (Infracos) to invest in technology infrastructure by laying fiber ducts, improving ICT services across the state. Agbata proudly stated, “Anambra remains one of the few states currently implementing the Zero ROW policy as a first step towards fully deepening broadband penetration.”

Regarding collaboration and interconnectivity, Agbata revealed that the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the state are collaborating with the ICT Agency to establish an Internet Exchange Point in Anambra. This partnership aims to enhance interconnectivity, reduce the cost of internet access, and deepen penetration, bringing excitement to ISPs in the state.

The ICT Agency has activated public Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) initiatives at Aroma Junction, Book foundation, and Unizik Gate, Ifite Awka. Agbata highlighted ongoing efforts to extend public Wi-Fi to various public spaces across the state in alignment with Prof. Soludo’s People’s Manifesto.

Additionally, the ICT Agency is finalizing implementing a public cloud service to secure Anambra State’s data locally, reinforce cybersecurity, and reduce costs by consolidating multiple cloud providers. Agbata also mentioned the adoption of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy Blockchain Strategy to promote and enhance blockchain ecosystem activities in the state.
