  • The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) receives three drones and 100 walkie-talkies from international partners to enhance security
  • The donation, provided by Equipping the Needy Initiative (ETNI), strengthens NSCDC’s capabilities in addressing national security challenges

To enhance national security, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has donated three drones and 100 self-configured walkie-talkies from international partners. The delivery is part of broader measures to ensure the safety and security of lives and property and the surveillance of critical national assets and infrastructure.

Babawale Afolabi, the spokesman for NSCDC, conveyed on Monday that these technological assets would play a crucial role in strengthening the Corps’ capabilities in addressing security challenges.

Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of NSCDC, expressed gratitude as he received the gadgets in his office on behalf of the Corps. The donation, provided by Equipping the Needy Initiative (ETNI) and its partners, was acknowledged as a significant step towards optimizing the Corps’ operational efficiency.

Dr Audi assured that the donated gadgets would be effectively utilized, emphasizing that they would establish a communication centre to serve as a command and control centre for national operations. He highlighted the NSCDC’s responsibility for safeguarding liberated areas and providing safety and security to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ETNI, Dr. Benedict Aliku, along with security experts and consultants from the United States, emphasized their commitment to supporting NSCDC. He underscored the collective responsibility for security and the organization’s resolve to play an active role.

Dr. Aliku revealed plans for future collaborations, leveraging the NSCDC Act 2003, amended in 2007. One such initiative includes embarking on IDP shelter projects in states such as Kaduna, Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa, managed by the NSCDC.

Additionally, ETNI will construct a Communication Command Center at the national headquarters to coordinate surveillance activities nationwide. This forward-looking collaboration aims to fortify the NSCDC’s capacity to tackle contemporary security challenges effectively.
