  • Super Eagles’ defender William Troost-Ekong to captain against Cameroon in AFCON round of 16 after missing the previous match.
  • Nigeria’s starting XI includes experienced players like Victor Osimhen, supported by emerging talents, showcasing determination against regional rivals Cameroon.

In a pivotal AFCON 2023 round of 16 clash against Cameroon, Super Eagles’ defender William Troost-Ekong is set to make a comeback as the captain. Troost-Ekong, who secured Nigeria’s victory over Ivory Coast with a decisive goal, missed the previous match against Guinea-Bissau due to injury.

The 31-year-old central defender will be supported by reliable partner Calvin Bassey, who has established himself as a key figure in the backline since an impressive performance against Ivory Coast.

The defensive lineup includes the return of Zaidu Sanusi and Ola Aina, forming a formidable five-man defence to contend with Cameroon’s attack, scoring five goals in three AFCON matches. Stanley Nwabali remains in goal for the Super Eagles.

Upfront, Victor Osimhen, Nigeria’s sole outfield scorer in the competition, leads the attacking trio, flanked by Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon.
