  • Committee chairman praises recent achievements of the military and security agencies in securing facilities and combating crude oil theft

The House of Representatives Special Committee on Oil Theft has affirmed its commitment to partnering with the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to address the challenge of crude oil theft in the country.

During a Friday visit to the office of the Chief of Defense Staff, the committee’s chairman, Rep Alhassan Ado Doguwa, conveyed the committee’s dedication to collaborating with the military and security organizations to tackle the issue. He praised the recent achievements of the military and security agencies in securing government facilities and uncovering facilities involved in crude oil theft.

Doguwa highlighted the joint effort of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in inspecting an illegal crude oil vessel intercepted by a private security firm, Tantita Security Services, loaded with thousands of metric tonnes of crude oil.

Assuring continuous legislative oversight, Doguwa stated that the House would subject the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) to further scrutiny and amendments, aiming to create an efficient environment for effective security operations.
