  • Stanley Nwabali, Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, trains alone due to a knee injury sustained during the AFCON Round of 16
  • Nigerian football fans eagerly await news on Nwabali’s recovery for the quarterfinal against Angola, with Coach Abdullahi expressing optimism

Stanley Nwabali, the first-choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), trained alone after undergoing a scan to assess a knee injury sustained during the Round of 16 clash against Cameroon over the weekend.

As of the press time, the scan results were still pending.

The Chippa United goalkeeper jogged around the pitch with a noticeable limp while the rest of the squad prepared for the upcoming quarterfinal against Angola on Friday.

Following a break in training on Sunday, Nigerian football fans, enamoured with Nwabali’s impressive performance, eagerly await news of his recovery for the crucial match against Angola.

Coach Mansur Abdullahi expressed optimism about Nwabali’s return, stating, “I am praying for him to recover in time for the match with Angola. Although he is new in the team, Nwabali has won the trust of many Nigerians. His presence in the match will be helpful because of how he has performed so far. But if he is not back, the other goalkeepers should emulate him.”

Amidst the uncertainty, the Falconets assistant coach remains confident in the Super Eagles’ ability to secure victory against Angola in the Round of 16 match.

The upcoming game will kick off at 6 pm at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Friday.
