  • Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume praises President Tinubu for instructing NNPC to deposit crude oil proceeds into the CBN
  • Ndume urges an Executive Order on Unexplained Wealth, advocating transparency and accountability in handling government funds for other agencies

Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for instructing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to deposit all crude oil proceeds into the Consolidated Revenue Fund at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Ndume expressed his commendation in response to questions from reporters in Abuja. He further urged the President to issue an Executive Order on Unexplained Wealth, empowering anti-corruption and security agencies to investigate individuals with questionable riches.

The Senate Chief Whip called for an extension of the directive to NNPCL regarding the prompt remittance of oil revenue to CBN to all revenue-generating agencies of the Federal Government. He emphasized transparency, monitoring, and accountability in handling government funds.

“The President has now ordered that all crude oil sales money be paid into the CBN. That is a very welcome and positive thing that he has done, and he should not stop there,” Ndume stated.

He emphasized the constitutional aspect of the decision and called for its extension to other revenue-generating agencies. Ndume urged agencies like NIMASA, the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), and the Nigeria Customs Service to follow suit by depositing revenues into the Consolidated Revenue Fund and maintaining their accounts with the CBN.

Ndume reiterated his commendation for Tinubu’s directive to NNPCL and urged further steps in the fight against corruption. He proposed the signing of an Executive Order on Unexplained Wealth, encouraging individuals, particularly those in the political class, to account for their sources of wealth or risk forfeiting them to the Federal Government.

“The next thing now, if President Tinubu wants to fight corruption, would be to sign an Executive Order on Unexplained Wealth in this country. Let all these people explain where they got their money, including myself,” Ndume stated, emphasizing the importance of focusing on national issues.
